This idea had been with me for quite some time now. I recall it originated from some youtube video that I watched when I was younger, the premise being that some speaker ( I think it was a ted talk ) asked a bunch of startup founders and ceos when was the last time they sat down and worked continuously on one thing for four hours. Very few found themselves to fulfill that criteria, the point being raised that even among this group of people that were supposed to be the most ambitious slice of youth, asking for as little as 4 hours continuous on one thing, was somehow an anomaly.

And I think about that, from time to time, for these days I find myself unable to satisfy that criteria even for an hour or two. It’s always some loop with me, some 20 mins of work thing and then wandering around watching a stream or snacking or just browsing random sites. Even right now as I’m trying to work on this essay, I feel sleepy, simply from the mental exertion that has not been more than 10 minutes at this point.

And this is perhaps the most important problem that if I could solve, I would be able to do and get all that I want in life; this imaginary ceiling will forever leave me wanting otherwise. And I’ve tried a couple things, all the usual I would say - caffeine, showers, eating better, definitely some more as well here and there but this rut seems impossible for me to get out of.

There are still measures I could follow, the likes of which I know of but do not yet have it in me to follow them through, the greatest of which would be radical ones like deleting my twitch account for that is the single biggest a big timesink for me. But that’s not the point of this essay, what I wanted to focus on instead is a more efficient scheduling.
